(Healthy)BRUNCH: Victory’s Banner
I KNOW. It’s been a month. Far too long between posts and STILL no Graham Elliot letter. I’ll talk about that in my next post but FIRST…
WHERE: Victory’s Banner, 2100 W. Roscoe, deep in the heart of Roscoe Village
WHEN: Saturday, October 8, 2011, around 10 am
I’ve been going to Victory’s Banner since the heyday of the Brunch tour. I love it. I’ve already talked of how much I love it. So, WHY am I bringing it back up?
It’s time, Chicago, for us to find some HEALTHY BRUNCH options. Plant-based Brunch is what I’m looking for…and Victory’s Banner has it in spades.
The entire restaurant is joyful and peaceful and 100% Vegetarian. The service is friendly, and the portions are right for the price. I went with a friend last weekend as we were both looking for a healthy brunch, meaning less reliance on eggs, sweetness or richness and more reliant on vegetables, whole grains and goodness. Victory’s Banner was a perfect pick. He had the Oat Bran Pancakes. I had the Eggless Wonder. Delicious.
(Confession time: We were so excited and hungry by the time we ate, we completely devoured our dishes before taking photos. So, this is a picture snapped by another satisfied customer.)
The Eggless Wonder: Marinated tofu with broccoli, onion, tomato, mushroom, zucchini, potato, goat cheese and brown rice(I had mine sans goat cheese).
The bread is fresh-baked and hearty and the whole thing is exactly what I was craving. Tender brown rice, still snappy green vegetables, a slight tang to the moist tofu. I didn’t miss eggs or bacon at all. TRUTH. And, by plate’s end, I was 100% full. Their menu also features soy bacon, and Vegan(or non-vegan) french toast. Everything is good. All of it. Especially the bottomless chai.
HEY JUICY, WHAT’S UP WITH THE HEALTHY BRUNCH? Welp kids, I am on a mission to clarify my eating and eat what will make me feel best. Part of this means minimizing my animal product intake. If you’re curious about a healthier brunch but nervous about eliminating meat or taking the big step away from dairy or eggs, give Victory’s Banner a try. At the very least it’ll open your mind a bit about your options, which is the first step toward changing your lifestyle for the better.
